Ralph Neville, First Earl of WestmorelandThe fourth Lord Neville and the first Earl of Westmoreland, Ralph Neville was granted the Honour of Richmond by Henry IV, and profited by the eclipse of the Neville rivals, the Percys, after the Percy rebellions of 1403 and 1405.In the early fifteenth century he embarked upon the ambitious rebuilding project that converted Middleham Castle into a suitable seat for the principal lord of the North.
