The
Parlor. We
have left the Great Chamber in the Chamber Range and passed through a lesser
chamber in that range and on to the Parlor, which is a large room directly
above the pantry and the buttery in the Hall Range.
The Parlor, on the first storey (or what Americans call the second floor), is the room in which Alderman Snawsell would have conducted business and received less important guests, or conducted private talks. Its furnishings were calculated to display the Alderman's wealth and to impress.
This view shows (left to right) the Red Chest; 'say' wall hangings; polygonal table with writing slope and majolica jug; and turned chair. The next several images will show these furnishings in greater detail.
