chandelier - click for enlargement

planParlor - Chandelier. This chandelier, from Flanders, was cast from a fifteenth-century original which still hangs in St. John's Hospital, Bruges. Its design shows the Virgin and Child in a sunburst. The candles, of beeswax, were made by Mary the Chandler.

Brass chandeliers such as this were imported from Flanders into England in great number in the later middle ages.
