Pantry
and Buttery-- Knife Rack.
The knife and spoon were the only implements used by diners at the fifteenth-century
table. Diners usually carried their own knives, while the host provided the
spoons. These knives, hand-crafted by John Buttifint of Dover, reproduce originals
from York, Hull, London, or Norwich, with hafts of bone, horn, or a variety
of woods.
The knife board is often on display in the Great Hall, just across the passage. This will be our next tour stop.
