The Boar Standard, Bosworth Battlefield Centre
Our "virtual tour" follows the approximate path the photographer took on a tour of the battlefield beginning just above the Shenton station. (Although we would properly pass Henry Tudor's position first, it did not seem a fitting beginning, and so we have placed it last.) Views of areas adjacent to the battle trail or the surrounding countryside follow the battlefield tour. Although this battle standard photo was probably taken from a point later in the tour, it seems an appropriate beginning. Placed at the top of Ambion Hill near the location where Richard was thought to have located his troops the morning of August 22, 1485, the boar standard commands the attention of motorists for miles around. The standard displays a modern interpretation of the Yorkist colors of murrey and blue, with the cross of St. George, Richard's white boar badge, and the Yorkist rose-en-soleil.
