King Richard's Field:
Marker Stone and Flag
First-time visitors to the Battlefield Centre are sometimes a bit surprised when they follow the trail markers to King Richard's Field. They first pass by the Shenton train station, and then skirt the house, barn and other outbuildings of Station Farm, often to the accompaniment of lowing cattle or cackling fowl. Walking a paved footpath adjacent to a two-lane road, they reach this spot, and are startled to find themselves at journey's end only a few steps beyond the asphalt. The road lies just beyond the fence in the photo, with the stream to the photographer's left. The Ashby Canal embankment is just to the rear of the photographer.
