There is no final resting place for Richard III -- no tomb, no gravesite -- and so Ricardians worldwide remember him and his fallen companions, and all the dead of this battle as we can. Some gather at Sutton Cheney Church, some sponsor services or altar flowers where they live, some place in memoriam notices in their local papers. We remember a man who took loyalty as his watchword, who championed the free exchange of ideas, and who deserved better at posterity's hand than he has received.

Loyaulte me lie.

Remembering RICHARD PLANTAGENET, King of England, husband of Queen Anne Neville, loving father and loyal brother, uncle and friend. A lover of justice and of fair play who was 'piteously slain and murdered' through treachery at Sandeford in the County of Leicester this day in 1485. Remembering also all who fell fighting for their King, especially those of Richard's Household who accompanied him on the last charge. Richard - today there are many worldwide who carry on the fight to clear your name. One day the truth will be known. Rest in Peace. LOYAULTIE ME LIE.

The story of Richard's life and death has a remarkable quality of being able to touch any heart instantly and hold you spellbound, no matter what country you come from. His life is not only part of English history: it's a tragedy of a noble and just man fighting against all the woes possible, both God sent and man-made, thrown together, and it is thus easily understandable in any language. I learned about him on a tour of the Tower of London and have been fascinated ever since.

He has and continues to be the subject of voluminous debate and sometimes heated arguments over the past 500 years. Often cast in the role of villain in history and fiction, his character has been defiled by historians, movie makers, novelists, writers and the Bard. But he was probably no better or worse than his contemporaries, a product of the violent world he inhabited. Yet he remains a compeling individual, and a brave one at that.

In memory of King Richard III the rightful King of Engand; For his beief in honesty His name was blackened with lies For his many acts of mercy, He was treated with indignities, For his neverending loyalty He was abandoned and betrayed, For his bravery in the midst of battle He lost his kingdom to a coward, While they may have stolen the life from his body, His spirit still inspires, as they lie silent. Sorry, folks, but I can't share your sympathy for Richard. He was justas ruthlessas most others in the war of the roses. In any case, I spent my years at university in a college founded by Lady Margaret Beaufort, so I feel more or obliged to suppirt her son Henry Tudor. At least he did manage to bring some level of order and stability to England.

visited the battlefield some years ago . very moving , but come on folks , read your late middle ages history and get real . as someone else here wrote , RICHARD WAS NO BETTER NOR NO WORSE THAN YOUR AVERAGE 15TH CENTURY PRINCE .You would honour his memory better by throwing away the romantic 'historical ' novels , reading some real history and reflecting on the real man . Maligned , possibly. Saintly monarch , sadly , no.....

To those of you who come to this site with the intent of maligning the intelligence or opinions of others-please take it elsewhere. If you mean to impress us with your mention of going to 'university'you should do a better job of spellchecking. Richard III was the rightful king of England, duly recognized by church and Parliament and if not loved by all his people at least thought to be a better king than a small boy. Henry Tudor stole the crown from him, his own claims to the throne based on birthrights that came from a WOMAN who truly didn't have a right to the throne, and then had Elizabeth Woodville's marriage declared legal again so he could marry her daughter. If the princes in the Tower were still alive...who would be king? Tudor had far more reason to want them dead than Richard did: one was king and the other wanted to be. May history be kinder to Richard than it's been previously!
