Strutting and Fretting
His Hour upon the Stage:
An Analysis of the Characterization
of Richard in Shakespeare's Richard III and Gordon Daviot's
Dickon
by
Judy R. Weinsoft
A lecture presented at the Oregon Shakespeare
Festival August 27, 1993
About
the Author: Judy R. Weinsoft, a librarian for the
Tri-Met Transit Agency in Portland, Oregon, joined the American Branch
of the Richard III Society after reading about it in the Wall
Street Journal (March 13, 1991). This lecture was delivered
in conjunction with a production of Richard
III at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. In
addition to researching and presenting the lectue, Weinsoft also produced
T-shirts for the occasion ("I was framed," "I was upstaged"),
with additional supplies of the T-shirts on sale at the 1993 American
Branch annual general meeting. A librarian's librarian, Weinsoft generously
donated the considerable proceeds of her T-shirt sales to benefit
the American Branch research library. Upon her death in March 1994,
the proceeds of a bequest together with the T-shirt funds and memorial
contributions from her many friends and family have formed the Judy
R. Weinsoft Memorial Research Library Fund. Income from
this endowed fund is used to build the collections of the American
Branch's research library, which was renamed the Judy R. Weinsoft
Memorial Research Library in her honor.
