You are invited to join us for a truly unique touring experience as we explore medieval England, the England of Richard III. Our delightful tour is perfect for those with a keen interest in Richard III and England's medieval period in general. This year, in addition to many of our usual Ricardian sites, we will be revisiting venues with Ricardian connections in England's beautiful West Country and the south. Sites we will visit having associations with Richard III include among others: the ancient cities of York and Exeter; Middleham, Richmond, Pickering, Conisburgh, Kenilworth, Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Corfe castles; the parish churches at Middleham, Sutton Cheyney, Sheriff Hutton and Bere Regis; Great Malvern Priory; Exeter and Salisbury cathedrals; the ruins of Eastwell Church, where Richard Plantagenet (believed to be a natural son of Richard III) is buried; and, for the first time, the Great Hall of Eltham Palace, built by Edward IV. We will enjoy our usual excellent guided tour of Bosworth Battlefield, where Richard III lost his crown and his life. At several sites, we will be warmly received and accompanied on our sightseeing by old and new Ricardian friends from various English branches and groups - always special occasions!
Also included in the itinerary will be other outstanding venues such as: two of England's finest and most attractive medieval manor houses, Goodrich, Old Wardour and Lewes castles, the splendid ruins of Tintern Abbey and a fascinating medieval Carthusian priory, Elizabethan Hardwick Hall, the beautiful 15th century abbey church at Sherborne, an enthralling little Norman church in the Welsh Borders, historic Battle Abbey, the massive early Norman castle and remarkable little cathedral in Rochester, and much more!
You will enjoy a night in London and 11 days of leisurely touring in a comfortable mid-size coach, with a friendly, helpful escort and driver/courier. Accommodation will be in charming, well-appointed smaller hotels and inns in attractive little towns and villages or in the lovely English countryside - well away from large "package-tour" groups. Your tour manager/escort will be Linda Treybig, member of the Richard III Society since 1979, specialist on travel in Great Britain, and tour director/escort of 12 previous Ricardian tours.
